From Restaurants with Party Rooms to Crowd-Pleasing Playlists, Make Your Party Memorable
So it’s Christmas time. Or your company has had a record-breaking quarter in sales. Or they’re wanting to show appreciation to their employees. Maybe they just want an excuse to let their hair down. What matters is, you’re having an office party. So what do you do to make it special?
Not only will it not reflect well on you if you’re scrambling to get things done at the last minute, but it can also have a negative effect on the party. Sure, the morning of, you may think, “What’s the big deal, I’ll just plug my own iPod into some speakers and hit shuffle.” Which goes well at first—except you forgot that Slayer’s “Raining Blood” was still on that as a little nod to your high school years and suddenly the rest of the office is looking scared and confused. Instead, go for a playlist that appeals to as many tastes as possible. Plan things like music, drinks, location, decorations, prizes, and more out at least a month in advance. You’ll be glad you did.
Don’t cram your whole office into a tiny space when Ottawa has plenty of restaurants with party rooms. Many restaurants with party rooms can accommodate as many as 50 people if need be—but look into it in advance if you know that space is a requirement. The great benefit to hosting your office part at a restaurant that regularly hosts large parties is that you get exceptional service from an experienced staff, and some will even let you customize menus to make sure your whole office can enjoy something they like.
Get the Whole Office Involved
If you plan the whole party yourself, then you might think you’re doing everyone a favour by taking the pressure off them. But truthfully, people like to have their opinions heard and considered. Take suggestions from as many people as you can, and fairly and carefully consider each one, whether it’s about restaurants with party rooms, food, drink, prizes, or even a silly costume theme. The best teams are those that understand the power of collaboration, and organizing an amazing office party should be no different!
And The Most Important Thing of All…
Have fun! Even if you’re the party organizer, once the festivities begin, you owe it to yourself to enjoy it just as much as the rest of your office. Sample from the menu, have a glass of wine or two if you’re not driving, sit back, and revel in the fruits of your labour. Have a great office party, and make it home safe.
